Summary

The world was an uncertain place in the midst of covid. The Boston Museum of Science wanted to bring the same engaging physical museum experience to the homes of users of all ages so they could continue to learn and feel inspired.

Rather than creating a virtual museum, the Museum of Science wanted to leverage the user experience of streaming platforms to encourage exploration of the site. They wanted to be seen as prestigious as the Smithsonian, yet push content like a media platform. This constituted a brand evolution to be able to emulate the look and feel of those platforms.

MOSx sought to establish itself as the "cooler younger sister" rather than a cousin to the Boston of Museum of Science that lived within the same brand family, but in its own distinct way. I increased the brightness of the secondary MOS brand colors and used them to create a delightful glowing gradient effect to engage and mesmerize users. This appears in backgrounds, on hover of certain elements, and in illustrations.
